Examples of Previous London Private Art Tours
Bermondsey Art Tour
Bermondsey Street is one of London’s hidden gems: a street full of artisan shops and cafes and even a glass-blowing studio, where we’ll take a peek and hopefully see some glassmakers at work. Bermondsey is also home to some of the best contemporary art galleries in London, including the sleek bluechip White Cube, and a smaller, female-run gallery for Latin American artists. Drawing Room re-opened last year on a former industrial estate, part of an exciting new neighbourhood from award-winning developer London Square.
Mayfair Art Tour
Join this tour to explore Mayfair, one of the main contemporary art hubs in London! We will visit some of London's biggest galleries, housed in grand old buildings, and stop in Cork Street, which has been completely revamped in the past five years to once again become a centre for contemporary art. We may get a peek into one of the auction houses. We’ll see the exciting Frieze at 9 Cork Street, a permanent space over two floors that is used for temporary exhibitions by a changing roster of galleries from around the world.
New Art Spaces in Soho and Fitzrovia
Soho has always had appeal as the centre of theatre, restaurant and nightlife, but recently many younger galleries have moved into the area. Fitzrovia has also attracted younger gallerists and we will visit some spaces around the charming Charlotte Street. Get a glimpse of cutting edge contemporary art and engage with the owners and sometimes the artists of these galleries; some of which may even have opened the week before! I
Sculpture in the City II Frieze Sculpture
Sculpture in the City has been running for twelve years, and every year UK curator selects some of the most exciting artists working in London and abroad to make art that is placed between old churches and shiny new skyscrapers. Best seen at dawn! Every year between September and October, Regent’s Park is home to Frieze Sculpture, with sculptures by established and upcoming artists from all over the world, selected by a respected international curator.
Tate Modern: Diaspora Artists II Indigenous Artists
We will look at how the art in Britain, and in particular in the collection of Tate, is shaped by stories of migration. We’ll see art by diaspora artists from Africa, South America, Asia and the Carribean; we can enter our own tales of arriving in London at Yinka Shonibare’s British Library, and imagine our own museum with Meschac Gaba’s Museum of Contemporary African Art. We will also explore Tate’s collection of Indigenous artists, seeing how ecological concerns are addressed differently depending on where we live.
