About Sabine

I strongly believe in the power of art to change and enrich our lives. There is more and more evidence that art has a positive effect on mental and physical wellbeing. Many GP practices are starting to see the value of social prescribing: using making art and visiting art spaces as a tool for mental wellbeing, social wellbeing, reintegration or relaxation.

I have always been passionate about art, but I took the sensible route first, training and working as a lawyer for six years. When my two children started school, I finally gave into the pull of art and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art in 2011 and a Masters of Modern and Contemporary Art at Christie’s Education, London in 2012. I also have a Certificate in Museum Education from the University of Houston, Texas.

My Story

I have a passion for art and health. Living In Houston, Texas for three years, I taught at the Museum of Fine Art, Houston and worked with Alzheimer and Dementia patients and the blind and visually impaired. I have been a member of the Development Committee of Hospital Rooms between, a charity that commissions world-class art for NHS mental health wards, and am currently a collection consultant for CW+, the charity that owns and manages the art collection of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. These professional experiences, as well as a personal experience with mental illness, have made me realise how important art is for our wellbeing.

But my engagement program will also address your mind in a different way.

During my degrees, I developed a real interest in Revisionist art history: digging up the neglected histories of female artists, artists of colour and artists working with craft materials. My tours and classes reflect this: I will challenge you and make you think!

I am passionate about making art accessible for all. Great artworks are timeless and universal and mostly, they do not discriminate. Seeing how much art has helped me grow, how it gave me solace in difficult times but also immense joy every single day, I want to share that feeling with other people. I hope you will trust me to share it with you.

"Sabine brings a high level of artistic integrity to our program. Our program is mainly focused on making art, and Sabine’s sessions are a great way for our community to engage with art on a different level.
Jake Meyer, Connect & Do, the art program for Certitude London

"Students love the discussion element of your classes and find your prompts most helpful. They find that contemporary art can be liberating because 'there are no rules' and they find that they can use their voice more than with traditional art. They particularly value your sessions for breaking away from the bounds of straight white men and would welcome more time with you in the future.- Andrew Mee, Head of Art History University College School

"The artworks were so well chosen to be relevant and accessible to the students - they loved it ! I personally was inspired to book tickets for both Tate Britain and Tate Modern when they reopen in May.” - Isabel Kidel, ELATT Community College
